It’s Tax Day!

Not to alarm anyone, but April 18th marks Tax Day in the U.S. It’s the last day you can file your taxes from the previous year, but seeing as how no American Holiday is complete without sales, it’s also a day when you can rack up some free and discounted items .

In response to the day, we decided to look at taxes, Ripley’s style.

In Case Of Nuke, Tax

If a nuclear war broke out and multiple areas of the country had been reduced to irradiated rubble, what would be your primary concern?

For most people, I assume it would be basic survival and navigation of the new world order. But if you’re one of the people who would be concerned about how you’d go about paying your taxes, rest assured.

The IRS tax manual has instructions for collecting taxes after a nuclear war.

There are lists out there of animals most likely to survive the nuclear holocaust , but apparently we need to add IRS agents to those lists.

You Thought State Tax Was Weird

History is full of stories of governments trying to make a buck by

But this might take the cake. A 2010 bill introduced by the Romanian Senate would tax witches and fortune tellers and hold them liable for false predictions.

I can’t help but wonder how they’d go about holding a fortune teller accountable for telling someone that the love of their life will be wearing red when they meet. Do you start a committee to follow that person around and wait to see if they ever meet a person wearing red?

The Boston Tea Party happened on December 16, 1773, to protest poor taxation. In the protest, Bostonians threw boxes of tea into the bay. What might the people of Romania throw into the water to protest this tax?

Pay it Forward

The worst thing that can happen on Tax Day is finding out that you owe money to Uncle Sam.

But what if there was a different way to pay back the taxes you owe?

To make that work, you might want to take a page out of the ancient Incan civilization.

Citizens of the Inca Empire paid their taxes in the form of physical work.

So if your state tells you that you owe them money, maybe you can try to save your hard-earned dollars and try to work off the debt instead.

No matter what the day has in store for you, we here at Ripley’s wish you all the best of luck in completing your taxes.
